Where to Write

Years ago when I first started my freelance writing career, I began to compile a notebook of newspapers and magazines that paid for Readers' Letters, Top Tips, Overheards - the sort of filler opportunities that keep a writer ticking over when they're in that tricky period called 'between jobs!'
Almost as soon as I finished, I realised that the book was out of date. New magazines came along, old ones disappeared and newspapers started to pay for 'Star' letters only. Searching on the internet I found fresh information hard to come by so I started this blog.
There are some opportunities that aren't that obvious like this one! I have had some personal success with the letters page for Wetherspoon News - the customer magazine for the JD Wetherspoon chain of pubs.
I didn't get paid cash for this, but instead I received £20 in Wetherspoon vouchers. Not as useful as cash admittedly but they were put to good use!
I can't give you any tips about what to write but you would need a certain amount of knowledge as to how the chain operates. Call in, pick up a magazine, enjoy a drink and decide what to write about. Check the website www.jdwetherspoon.co.uk for more details.
